Story
Meet Amelia. This sweet girl was surrendered to a rural county shelter along with two other pregnant dogs from the same home. Stories like this break our hearts—three expectant moms under one roof, likely the result of unaltered male and female dogs living together. When the shelter reached out for help, Worthy Dog Rescue stepped in. We took in Amelia, and one of our partner rescues welcomed her puppies, ensuring this little family gets the bright future they deserve. Thankfully, Amelia was able to deliver her puppies in the safety and comfort of a foster home, where she proved to be an attentive, loving mom. It was immediately clear that she adores people—she’s affectionate, cuddly, and always eager for human companionship. She also has excellent doggy social skills, getting along with every pup she meets. Currently, she’s in a foster home with a larger dog and three cats. Her foster mom describes her as a very friendly pup who adjusts well to new situations—"A couple of sniffs, and she’s good to go!" She enjoys playdates with a neighbor’s dog and loves romping around with her foster sibling. Amelia is still a young pup, with all the energy and enthusiasm of adolescence. She’s always up for an adventure—whether it’s a walk (which she loves!), a road trip, backyard zoomies, or a car ride. She’s social, confident, and the perfect sidekick for an active household. But when the day winds down, she’s also a champion cuddler, happiest curled up on the couch with her favorite human. She sleeps soundly through the night, nestled in a cozy ball on her foster parent’s bed. House manners? Amelia has them! She’s fully house-trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. She tolerates the crate for treats (even if it’s not her favorite), and her leash skills are decent—she may pull a little when excited to meet a new dog, but only out of friendly enthusiasm. Her foster parents crate her when they leave her home alone to avoid her getting into mischief. Her foster mom describes her as medium energy—she’s playful and active but also respectful of the older dog in the home, knowing when to settle down and entertain herself with a toy or nap.  We think that Amelia would thrive in an active home with another playful pup and maybe some kids to romp around with. She’s a fantastic family dog just waiting for the perfect match. Apply today! Story
Meet Morgan! This very sweet girl is a Hurricane Helena survivor whose world was turned upside down when her family lost their home. Living in a camper with two toddlers and other pets, they made the difficult decision to surrender Morgan so she could have the chance at a better life. And now she’s ready to find her forever family. Morgan is a friendly, social pup who gets along wonderfully with kids, cats, and other dogs. She’s loving, adaptable, and eager to start her next chapter. Since coming into rescue, Morgan has adjusted beautifully. She’s lived both as an only dog and as part of a pack, and she’s currently being fostered with two small, middle-aged Chihuahuas - she’s respectful of their space and calm around them. She has great house manners: potty-trained, crate-trained, and respectful of boundaries and belongings. She only hops on the couch when invited and picks up on new routines quickly. Morgan is very affectionate—she loves giving kisses and always greets you with a wagging tail. With a medium energy level, she’s playful and active but also knows how to settle down. She enjoys time outdoors, loves chasing balls, and can entertain herself indoors with toys. She already knows commands like sit and wait, and her leash skills have greatly improved in her foster home. Like many young dogs, she may jump up to greet you, but she’s eager to learn and gets better every day. Here’s what Morgan’s foster mom, Tamlynn, had to say: “I consider Morgan the Goldilocks of dogs! She’s past the puppy stage but still has great energy, making her a fun companion. She’s the perfect size—not too big, not too small. She’s already house- and crate-trained, and sleeps through the night curled up next to her people. She plays well with other dogs and is incredibly patient with my older, feisty Chihuahua. She really is the perfect dog for a very lucky family.” In her previous home, Morgan lived with other dogs, cats, and young children. We think she’d thrive in a home with other pups or playful kids to grow up with. If you’re looking for a sweet, social, easygoing companion, Morgan might just be your girl.  Apply today! IF YOU ARE VIEWING THIS LISTING ON PETFINDER OR ADOPT-A-PET, please visit: vCaninesandkittiesrescue.org to access adoption requirements, more information and pictures Meet Arlo --Arlo is about 7 months old and 22 lbs. Arlos is a shy and timid boy who will need time to warm up to new people. Arlo will require another young and confident dog in his forever home. Arlo enjoys running around the backyard chasing a tennis ball or just laying in the sun. Arlo will need an adopter who can work with him on building his confidence. Arlo is not in a foster home with children, but we feel he would do ok with dog savvy children who are 8 years and up. Arlo is a young pup who is used to having his foster mom at home during the day and will need an adopter who is also at home a good portion of the day to continue training and set him up for success - no exceptions! Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and/or the general appearance of the animal. The Adoption Fee for this puppy is $400.00. ***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from CKRescue*** ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. So, adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. Story
Meet TINA! This adorable, sweetheart just took her freedom ride! Look at that smiling face with the expressive eyes, long low-rider body, and white booties on turned out front paws! Tina is about 2 years old, 35 pound, tan with white chest and booties dachshund/basset mix. Tina is friendly, confident and playful, but she also loves to settle down to hang out with her humans, especially if its in a fluffy bed! She likes to meet people. If you are looking for a very sweet, happy dog, Tina may be the one for you! Her foster reports that "Tina is a wonderful dog and has settled in very quickly. She would like a doggie playmate at home, but also is fine on her own." Tina found herself through no fault of her own in a rural North Carolina shelter. Poor Tina did not understand why no one came to get her and she had lost the comforts of a home. The shelter was overcapacity and even though she is so sweet and a favorite, she was in danger; a great local rescue pulled her to safety and a fantastic PetConnect volunteer offered to foster so Tina could come to the DC area to find her new home that will adore her furever. Tina loves her food, likes to cuddle, and would be a great companion. She enjoys the creature comforts in her home, and has great house manners. She is eager to find her special person to love and curl up with on a warm summer evening! ***Please note that the first step is to fill out an application (It does not commit you in anyway but allows us to discuss with you if you and the dog are a good fit). In addition, an important step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ) , spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Tina will be spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. Story
Roxy is a funny little dog who is a lot of fun to have around. She is low maintenance, she loves going for long walks, and is always up for them (rain or shine). She loves walking around a fenced yard and really entertains herself just by exploring. She is super athletic she jumps on top of a 4 foot gate & walks on the top of it (on a skinny little metal pole) , so a fenced yard has to be pretty tall for her. It looks like she is a gymnast on a very skinny balance beam! She might be a great agility dog but unlike many dogs like that, she is not demanding. We joke because of her tough looks that she the is really a guardian angel disguised as small four-legged bouncer. She does not chew on things she shouldn't and goes outside of her run so we believe she is likely housetrained. If you are interested in Roxy please let us know.
